Correctional Officer
I started with the department of corrections in July of 2023. I started my officer in training period with my field training officer in East Dorm. During this time, I was able to start learning how the unit operates and how to professionally interact and oversee the male population of East Dorm.
In January of 2024 I graduated post and returned to my facility working the swing shift with different cards, while in north dorm I taught and lead newer staff while working this multi man post. During this time, I gained experience dealing with resident conflict and in dealing with staff conflict.
In June of 2024 I completed my probation. I then bid into East dorm on night shift. During this time I was able to gain a well-rounded understanding of how the facility operated. I was lead and taught by senior staff members on how to respectfully and professionally keep staff and the population safe by regularly finding contraband, completing urinary analysis tests, and planning and leading mass searches.
In 2025 I worked on swing shift and was a relief staff member for every unit. During this time I was able to work with every shift and this improved my communication skills with other staff members. Since I worked at every post on the compound I was also able to gain a well rounded understanding of how every post worked and how the compound ran as a whole.
In the last half of 2025, I bid into East Dorm as the B-days officer. During this time I gained experience conducting transports, responding to and recognizing residents under the influence of narcotics, and training new staff. I was selected and completed field training officer class and the majority of my work days I would be assigned a officer in training to teach.
In the beginning of 2026 I started my new post at Correctional Industries. I have been able to gain skills in roster management, crucial conversation with both staff and residents, and communication skills while leading projects.
