MAYORS' AWAYRDS TO YOUTH 2018

One of the highest recognitions that shadowed my commitment to community service and personal development during middle school was the Mayors' Award for Youth 2018. Students received this award in their capacity as leaders, or by overcoming some adversities or showing other positive light within their communities. Being an outstanding recognition, this was a thing to be grateful for.

At the time, I was involved in activities that were helpful to others and contributed to the community in one way or another. It reminded me that sometimes just stepping up, even in the smallest of ways, can make a difference. It also encouraged me to keep working toward bigger goals and making positive contributions to the people around me.

This experience really struck a chord with me as it made its impact on both academic and career decisions, such as choosing to study criminal justice. This furthered the realization of civic service and how everyone can help toward making the community one in which people will like to be.
