Throughout my career working within fibreoptics, I have met and worked with many talented engineers who have also helped me develop my knowledge and skills within the fibreoptic industry, from being involved in the development of fibre bragg gratings and fibre tail alignment, through to becoming a senior employee at AFE Ltd whose responsibility was to ensure manufacturing capabilities through vigorous training for operators. Which involved teaching operators in the methods of optical splicing from OM1 - OM5 fibre down to 4/125um (OS1 and OS2) splicing; incorporating different materials using within fibreoptic fields. I have also worked with wire bonding machinery too, although I will add that was a long time ago where manual feeding of the wire was required but, this was using alignment tools such as micrometers stages and micro manipulators.
During my extensive period in the fibreoptic industry, I was utilised by the company I worked for because of my skills within fibreoptic alignment, maintaining a very high yield when working within 4um and above; I was employed as a development technician to prove theories and provide samples to the optical industry which later became live products within the industry.
Currently I work as a warehouse operator because I needed to work, after being out of the UK for 3 years. When I returned I found that not a lot of employers were keen on employing me because of the vast time off work, so i took agency work to gain employment and now I work for APC Overnight parcel company.
I would like to get back to working with fibreoptics, after all it is mostly what i have done and studied over 27 years.
