Work History

Research Assistant

Universitas Gadjah Mada
03.2023 - Current
  • Conducting molecular cloning to enhance the expression of RNA interference molecules aimed at targeting Ganoderma boninense pathogens. The study entails the design of specific primers for target isolation, the construction of recombinant vectors, the transformation of host bacteria, and the analysis of overexpressed molecules through their application to pathogens. Two cloned isolates and the ultimate target products (RNA) have been successfully acquired.
  • Conducting a research design in collaboration with the lead researcher to create a bio-fungicide for the treatment of Ganoderma boninense, a fungus that induces Basal Stem Rot (BSR) in oil plantations. The research entails the development of molecular sequences that can suppress specific genes, thereby effectively reducing the severity of disease in oil palm plantlets by up to 66%.
  • Conducted literature reviews to support hypothesis development and identify gaps in existing knowledge.
  • Comparative data on relative gene expression between treated pathogens and controls are obtained by analyzing the presence of target genes and quantifying the number of target gene transcripts using conventional PCR and qRT-PCR methods.
  • Conducting project meetings and seminars for researchers, students, farmers, agricultural extension workers, and pest/disease field observers as part of the ACIAR-HLB (Australian Center for International Agricultural Research—HORT 2019/164) project. The participants' comprehension of contemporary biotechnology-based strategies for the management of Huanglongbing disease in citrus plants was improved. In addition to the skilled at working independently and collaboratively in a team environment, Safira gained opportunity to do study and research visits at the Citrus Research Institute (CRI) in China as part of the ACIAR-HLB project to safeguard the future of the citrus sector in Indonesia, China, and Australia from this project.
  • Contributed to development of research proposals and progressions, aligning with strategic objectives and securing project approvals. As a result, we received research funding of IDR125,000,000 and IDR781,845,458.
  • Conducting project meetings for researchers and students involved in the ACIAR shallot and chili initiative (SLaM 2018/145). In order to generate thesis and dissertation research designs for students, the research team and students collaborated to devise methods for managing pathogens in shallot plants.
  • Fostering research ideas and securing funding by collaborating with other universities, industry, and government entities. This coordination has resulted in partnerships between universities and corporations.
  • Assisting students engaged in theses or dissertations relevant to certain project subjects, particularly focusing on the bio-fungicide development initiative funded by Oil Palm Research Funding Management (BPDPKS).
  • Managed laboratory equipment and resources, ensuring proper maintenance and optimal functionality.

Quality Control Staff Member

PT Samudra Seafood Products
08.2017 - 03.2019
  • Improved product quality by implementing rigorous inspection processes and standard operating procedures. The procedures included examining levels of antibiotics and bacteria for E. coli, Coliform, Salmonella, Vibrio, and S. aureus in samples from raw materials to finished seafood (shrimp) products, as well as in water and air around the laboratory and production areas.
  • Reported problems and concerns to management.
  • Participated in the development and implementation of new testing methods to enhance product reliability and durability.
  • Reduced production defects by closely monitoring equipment calibration and routine maintenance schedules.
  • Evaluated customer complaints regarding product quality, initiating corrective actions when necessary to maintain customer satisfaction levels.
  • Enhanced individual performance through continuous training on quality control techniques and industry standards.
  • Established strong relationships with suppliers, fostering open communication channels that facilitated early detection of potential quality risks.
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to address root causes of quality issues, leading to more consistent output.
  • Conducted regular audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies, maintaining a high-quality standard in production operations.
  • Streamlined documentation process for better tracking of product testing results, enabling efficient decisionmaking.

Teacher

Sony Sugema College

Reading, attending workshops, cooking

I enjoy reading personal development books, scientific journals, and research articles. The activity allows me to enhance my capacity both as a human being and researcher, improve my reasoning abilities, collect ideas for R&D, and figure out solutions. Besides reading, I regularly attend professional workshops and seminar to learn new trends in my research field. Thus, I am able to share insights with peers to improve my research progression. I also like cooking. This hobby makes me become creative with ingredients formulation to make tasty food.
