Pediatric nurse on a 10 bed unit. Care provided to pediatric patients ranging from 2 days old to 18 years old. Care provided to adult patients of all ages for Med-Surg overflow. Took care of patient with respiratory problems and on high-flow oxygen, patients in DKA and on insulin drips, failure to thrive patients on tube feedings, and patients with a wide range of other medical condition. Ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on the acuity of the patient.

Monitored and assessed mother and newborn after delivery to ascertain proper healing and recovery. Educated new parents on how to properly care for infants by instructing parents on bottle feeding, bathing, circumcision care and breastfeeding. Assisted mothers in establishing breastfeeding relationships with infants with proper latching demonstrations. Phototherapy provided to infants. Labs, CHD and PKU performed on infants. Monitored patient reactions after administering medications and IV therapies. Explained course of care and medication side effects to patients and caregivers in easy-to-understand terms. In depth education provided to mother's on their care upon discharge as well as newborn care upon discharge

Some skills performed were: Wound care, blood sugars on moms and babies, blood administration, bili light therapy, O2 administration on infants. Administered oral, IV and intra-muscular medications and monitored patient reactions. Immunized patients against diseases such as influenza and pneumonia to protect vulnerable populations from serious illnesses. Answered patient questions and provided take-home materials for further information. Monitored post-op vitals, set up PCA, fluids, reviewed post-op orders and assimilated patients to unit
